What is a Refrigerator Defrost Timer?

A Refrigerator Defrost Timer is a synchronous motor control that activates an internal SPDT switch to actuate a defrost heater in a refrigerator. They are designed to control whether a refrigerator’s compressor and defrost heater are on, making them essential to properly operating cold equipment in your kitchen. The compressor and defrost heater warm the unit’s evaporator coil to melt the frost that forms on it.

Application of Refrigerator Defrost Timer:

Defrost timers are used to shut off the refrigerator compressor and the evaporator fan motors. They regularly turn on the defrost system to rid the evaporator of defrost. Over time, the timer motor, motor bearing, or reduction gears on electromechanical timers.
